The Press of exile and Emigration (opposition to the Portuguese dictatorship, 1926-1974)
O documento, "Imprensa de Exílio e Emigração (oposição à ditadura, 1926-1974)" nasceu de um trabalho de colaboração entre o Arquivo de História Social do Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa, o Centro de Documentação 25 de Abril da Universidade de Coimbra, e a Fundação Mário Soares e Maria Barroso, no âmbito do "Congresso Internacional A Imprensa de Exílio(s)" organizado pelo Grupo Internacional de Estudos da Imprensa Periódica Colonial do Império Português (GIEIPC-IP), com o objetivo de partilhar e disponibilizar em acesso aberto um conjunto de dados relacionados com a imprensa do exílio e da emigração existentes nas três instituições.
Com esta lista pretendemos iniciar a constituição de uma tabela de dados que sirva de fonte para a história das diversas correntes políticas da oposição à Ditadura Militar e ao Estado Novo que se organizaram no exílio, assim como para a história dos movimentos de libertação das ex-colónias portuguesas e organizações unitárias anticoloniais, cujos secretariados gerais e representações se estabeleceram também no exílio. Através de uma organização semi-estruturada dos dados, visa-se fornecer informação essencial para o apuramento da história das organizações e das pessoas que lhes deram vida.
Na perspetiva dos recursos das instituições de memória envolvidas neste projecto, esta lista permite também entender em que medida as coleções podem completar-se virtualmente de forma a desenhar para o futuro uma gestão articulada das políticas de digitalização e, com isso, dedicar os seus recursos ao tratamento físico e intelectual dos arquivos com vista a ampliar o espectro de fontes em acesso aberto, Permitiu, ainda, propor uma reflexão em torno dos modelos de harmonização da metainformação gerada pelas instituições.
É um trabalho para continuar, que resultou na identificação de mais de 200 títulos de imprensa, e para o qual contamos vir a beneficiar da adesão de outras instituições portuguesas e estrangeiras, bem como do contributo dos conhecimentos de investigadores e ex-exilados. Deseja-se, igualmente, complementá-lar através da associação de outras tipologias documentais relevantes para a biografia das pessoas e organizações que estiveram ligadas ao universo da imprensa de exílio e de emigração.

The document, "Exile and Emigration Press (opposition to the dictatorship, 1926-1974)", was born from collaborative work between the Arquivo de História Social (Social History Archive) of the Instituto de Ciências Sociais e Humanas - University of Lisbon, the Centro de Documentação 25 de Abril - University of Coimbra , and the Mário Soares and Maria Barroso Foundation, within the scope of the "International Congress The Press of Exile(s)" organized by the International Group for Studies of the Colonial Periodical Press of the Portuguese Empire (GIEIPC-IP, IGSCP-PE), with the aim of sharing and making available in open access a set of data related to the exile and emigration press existing in the three institutions.
With this list we intend to start a data table that serves as a source for the history of the various political currents of opposition to the Military Dictatorship and the Estado Novo that were organized in exile, as well of the liberation movements of the former Portuguese colonies and of anti-colonial unitary organizations, whose general secretariats and representations were also established in exile. Through a semi-structured organization of data, the aim is to provide essential information for the investigation of the history of the organizations and the people who kept them alive.
From the perspective of the resources of memory institutions involved in this project, this list also allows us to understand to what extent collections can be completed virtually in order to design an articulated management of digitization policies for the future and, therefore, free resources to the treatment of the physical and intellectual aspects of archives with a view to expanding the spectrum of open access sources. In addition, also allowed proposing a reflection on models for harmonizing metadata generated by the involved institutions.
It is a work to continue, which has resulted in the identification of more than 200 press titles, and which we hope will benefit from the support of other Portuguese and foreign institutions, as well as from the contribution of knowledge provided by researchers and ex-exiles. It is also desired to complement it in the future namely with the association of other documentary typologies relevant to the biography of people and organizations that were linked to the universe of exile and emigration press.
